The UK government has rejected a visa application submitted by a Kandy district parliamentarian from the National People’s Power (NPP).

The NPP parliamentarian was scheduled to visit a workshop on ‘Artificial Intelligence in Security’, organized by the UK branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, from 27 to 31 January 2025 at the Houses of Parliament in London.

It is reported that despite being entitled to a diplomatic passport as a member of parliament, his visa has been rejected.

SJB MP Prasad Siriwardena alleged that the authorities had rejected his visa as they refused to believe he was an IT engineer.

He claimed that this NPP MP had reportedly misled the public during the general election by claiming to be an engineer in order to gain access to parliament.
