National People’s Power (NPP) National List MP Lakmali Hemachandra has revealed that she advised authorities not to enforce a court order related to the eviction of unauthorized settlers in the Narahenpita area.

The remarks were made during a recent meeting of the Divisional Coordinating Committee.

Hemachandra stated that she had issued direct instructions to the police, urging them to refrain from implementing the court ruling.

She added that the decision was made following a consensus among relevant parties present at the meeting.

Legal experts warn that MP Hemachandra’s statement advising non-compliance with a court order could be viewed as contempt of court, as it undermines the authority of the judiciary.
