President of the national agrarian conference Anuradha Tennakoon has warned of plans to handover agricultural land to multinational companies.

Speaking at the Anuradhapura district meeting of the conference, he alleged the phosphate deposit is to be sold to a US company for a 30-year period.

Tennakoon also claimed a conspiracy to discourage paddy farming, noting the president’s recent remark that considerable landmass presently coming under paddy cultivation needs to be reconsidered.
