Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has disclosed the total expenditure on foreign trips of four former presidents.

Making a statement in parliament today (27), Amarasuriya provided a breakdown of the funds spent on foreign travel by former presidents.

    Mahinda Rajapaksa (2010 – 2014): Rs. 3.572 million
    Maithripala Sirisena (2015 – 2019): Rs. 384 million
    Gotabaya Rajapaksa (2020 – 2022): Rs. 126 million
    Ranil Wickremesinghe (2023 – 2024): Rs. 533 million

The Prime Minister emphasized the significant reduction in foreign travel expenses under the administration of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, with only Rs. 1.8 million spent on foreign trips over the past five months.

“We were instructed to move beyond symbolism and demonstrate our commitment through actions, not just words. And that’s exactly what we’ve done,” she said.

Amarasuriya also pointed out that the highest annual foreign travel expenditure occurred in 2013 under President Mahinda Rajapaksa, with a staggering Rs. 1,144 million spent in just one year.
