Police shake-up: Top brass, OICs transferred in major reshuffle

A fresh wave of transfers involving senior and mid-level police officers has been announced, with changes taking immediate effect, police headquarters said today.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) S. Muthumala, Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), has been appointed as the new Director of the Bureau for the Prevention of Abuse of Children and Women. He is among several senior officers shifted in a major reshuffle approved by the National Police Commission.

SSP Shani Abeysekera has been appointed as the new CID Director, succeeding Muthumala.

In addition to the top-level changes, five Officers-in-Charge (OICs) were also transferred:

  • Chief Inspector KCP de Silva, OIC of Welipenna, has been moved to Elpitiya for regular duties.
  • Chief Inspector EMAIB Ekanayake has been transferred from the Puttalam Division to serve as OIC of Navagattegama.
  • Inspector SK Anurajith has been appointed OIC of Welipenna, replacing CI de Silva.
  • Inspector AHGRT Hemanchandra, previously OIC of Karadiyanaru, has been moved to Aduruppuveediya.
  • Inspector TC Pethum Kumara has been transferred from Navagattegama to take over as OIC of Karadiyanaru.

The reshuffle is part of ongoing internal adjustments aimed at streamlining police operations, according to sources at police headquarters.
