Public dissatisfaction is rising over President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s failure to deliver on key election promises, particularly his pledge to reduce VAT and ease the cost of living.
Eight months into the administration, citizens say prices of essentials such as milk, eggs, infant formula, and agricultural goods remain high, contrary to the president’s assurances.
Many, especially women, say they are bearing the brunt of rising household costs amid stubborn inflation.
“Nothing he promised has actually happened. Things have only gotten harder,” a woman said, expressing concern over the government’s lack of visible progress.
