Sevanagala sugar factory is to be handed over to an Indian company with its representatives due in the island on 16 September for talks, ‘Lankadeepa’ reports.

Authorities are now exerting pressure on factory officials to align with the decision.

However, industries minister Sunil Handunnetti has rejected the handover claim, saying the factory will not be sold.

Furthermore, even burnt sugarcanes are being bought from farmers at a loss, at Rs. 9,000 per tonne, he said.
