The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has requested the country’s anti-corruption body to investigate how Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe amassed assets worth Rs 275 million, as revealed in his 2025 asset declaration.

The SJB’s Anti-Corruption Movement (ACM), led by Colombo District MP Mujibur Rahman, submitted the request to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption (CIABOC), raising concerns over the Minister’s unexplained wealth.

SJB leader Sajith Premadasa directed the ACM to take action following public disclosures of Samarasinghe’s declaration, which has triggered controversy across political lines.

MP Rahman criticised Minister Samarasinghe’s “feeble explanations” across media platforms and stressed that it was now up to CIABOC and Parliament to determine the legitimacy of the Minister’s assets.

The SJB also urged CIABOC to investigate the asset declarations of several other National People’s Power (NPP) ministers, including Bimal Rathnayake, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Sunil Handunetti, Punyasiri Jayakody and Sunil Watagala.
