Sugarcane cultivators protest in front of Pelwatte Sugar company

Nearly 500 sugarcane cultivators held a protest to demand lasting solutions to their issues from Pelwatte Sugar company.

They staged a sit-down protest in front of the company’s administrative office yesterday (02).

They told a police team led by the acting OIC of Buttala police that arrived at the scene that they would not leave until they are given a clear answer by the authorities.

They said payments to them for sugarcane is overdue by three months, and protested against the refusal to buy the sugarcane harmed by fire.
