The ruling National People’s Power (NPP) government is likely to make several key appointments to head Sri Lanka’s foreign missions in the coming weeks.
According to reports, former Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya (PC) will be appointed as Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York while former Air Force Commander, Air Chief Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa (Retd), will be appointed as the High Commissioner to South Africa.
Senior Sri Lankan diplomat Mahishini Colonne is tipped to be appointed as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India and former Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS) officer Nimal Senadeera is likely to be appointed as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to the UK.
Professor Arusha Cooray and Professor Nirmala Rathnayake are likely to be named as Ambassadors to the United Arab Emirates and Japan respectively.
It is also reported that a former Navy Commander who retired recently will be appointed as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Pakistan.
