World Bank warns of major youth employment gap in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is expected to see nearly one million young people enter the workforce over the next decade but only around 300,000 new jobs are likely to be created during that period, the World Bank has warned.

The projection highlights a significant gap between labour market entrants and employment opportunities, raising serious concerns about future job creation and economic inclusivity.

In a statement issued at the conclusion of his first official visit to Sri Lanka, World Bank Vice President for South Asia, Johannes Zutt, stressed the urgent need to stimulate private sector growth to address the looming employment shortfall.
