The government remains very clear that it hopes to bring down electricity tariffs by 30 per cent in a matter of two to three years, said finance deputy minister Harshana Suriyapperuma.

“We know how exporters strive to reduce production costs in order to compete in the world market,” he said.

Suriyapperuma pointed out that by reducing the tariffs, the government intends to facilitate industrialists on the path for a production-based economy.

In reference to the 15 pc hike in electricity tariffs, he said that had to be done as per the country’s requirement and in accordance with the price adjustment methodology in the electricity act.
