The government has decided to import 40,000 metric tons of Keeri Samba and substitute rice varieties in a bid to address the current non-availability in local rice stocks, the President’s Media Division (PMD) announced.
This decision follows recommendations made by the Food Security and Cost of Living Committee, which convened recently at the Presidential Secretariat to assess the prevailing food supply situation.
The PMD added that approximately 5,000 metric tons will be imported through state-run institutions, while the balance will be procured by the private sector, depending on market requirements and consumption trends.
