Grama Niladhari officers urge HRCSL to investigate service constitution violations

The Sri Lanka Grama Niladhari Association yesterday (30) formally petitioned the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL), demanding the appointment of an independent investigation board to probe claims that the Grama Niladhari Service Constitution infringes upon the fundamental rights of Grama Niladhari officers.

The complaint, initially lodged by the Association’s National Organizer Neville Wijeratne, alleged serious breaches of officers’ rights within the current service framework. Despite assurances from the HRCSL that investigations would commence in May and prompt recommendations would follow, the Association states no action has been taken, and their subsequent inquiries have been met with silence.

Expressing deep disappointment, the Grama Niladhari Association warned that this inaction undermines public confidence in the HRCSL’s role as an independent and impartial institution safeguarding citizens’ rights.
