India reported its first cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Bengaluru and Gujarat as three infants tested positive for the virus amid a massive surge in the cases in China.

The two infected children in Bengaluru did not have any travel history, the officials said.

However, it was yet not clear if this was the same strain of HMPV that caused a spike in cases in China.

Delhi authorities have issued advisory for preparedness for the potential surge in cases in the city.
