The public is being warned against an increasing rate of deaths due to heart disease at young age.

As many as 7,777 persons died of related illnesses last year, said Dr. Sherine Balasingham, a consultant community physician at the Directorate of Non-Communicable Diseases.

Most of them were aged between 18 and 45 years, she said.

Mainly the consumption of oily food leads to heart disease, and regular exercises is a key method of prevention, doctors say.
