A delegation from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is expected to visit Sri Lanka soon to share its experiences in party organisation, internal discipline and organisational management with members of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), signalling renewed engagement between the two political parties.

The proposed visit was discussed during a meeting between JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva and Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Wei Huaxiang at the JVP headquarters in Pelawatte on Thursday (5).

The visiting delegation is expected to provide detailed explanations of the Chinese Communist Party’s policies and organisational practices, drawing on decisions taken at the fifth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the CCP, held in China on October 29.

During Thursday’s meeting, Ambassador Wei has briefed Silva on the outcomes of the plenary session, with particular attention to the Chinese party’s approach to maintaining strict internal discipline and strengthening its organisational structure.

Silva has said the proposed delegation would share the CCP’s experiences directly with JVP members, providing an opportunity for the party to gain further insights into China’s approach to political organisation and internal management.

The planned visit comes amid longstanding political ties between the JVP and the Chinese Communist Party, with the two sides maintaining contacts and exchanges on party-related matters.

Beyond political cooperation, discussions had also covered ways to strengthen relations between Sri Lanka and China, particularly in investment, technology, transport, education, healthcare and cultural cooperation.

Ambassador Wei has reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s development across these sectors, while Silva has expressed appreciation for China’s assistance to the country’s economic and technological development.

The proposed CCP delegation’s visit is expected to provide a further platform for political exchanges between the two parties, alongside discussions on China’s organisational experience and its potential relevance to the JVP.
