Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena on Friday (16) issued a court order preventing Ven. Ulapane Sumangala Thera and 54 others from remaining within the premises of the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, as a protest demanding the release of Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera entered its second day.
The order comes amid the continued presence of a group of Buddhist monks near the Presidential Secretariat, where they began protesting on Thursday evening, calling for the release of Gnanasara Thera.
Several monks remained at the location overnight, with the protest continuing into Friday.
The protesters are currently occupying the pavement on the opposite side of Galle Road, outside the Presidential Secretariat premises.
The demonstration has drawn attention to the continuing campaign by the monks seeking Gnanasara Thera’s release, with the latest court order placing restrictions on their presence within the Secretariat premises.
Despite the order, the monks continued their protest from the pavement across Galle Road on Friday, maintaining their demand for his release.
