The second generating unit of the Norochcholai Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant has been taken offline for maintenance and repair work, with the National System Operator (NSO) assuring that the shutdown will not disrupt the country’s electricity supply.
The NSO has been informed of the maintenance work, which requires the generating unit to be temporarily taken out of operation to carry out the necessary repairs.
However, the system operator has stated that the shutdown is not expected to affect the continuity of electricity supply.
The Norochcholai power plant, located in Puttalam, is a key component of Sri Lanka’s electricity generation network, with its three generating units playing a significant role in meeting the country’s power demand.
The temporary shutdown comes as the reliability of the country’s power generation system remains a key concern, particularly given the importance of maintaining an adequate supply to meet demand.
