Sri Lanka’s gross official reserves increased to $ 6.591 billion in July 2026, marking a further improvement in the country’s external financial position, according to the latest data released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).
Official reserves stood at $ 6.458 billion at the end of June, meaning reserves rose by $ 133 million during July.
The month-on-month increase represents growth of approximately 2.1%, with the reserve position continuing to remain above the $ 6.5 billion mark.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s gold reserves also recorded a marginal increase during the month. Gold reserves rose from $ 191 million in June to $ 192 million in July, reflecting a $ 1 million increase.
The rise in gross official reserves comes as Sri Lanka continues efforts to strengthen its external sector, rebuild foreign exchange buffers and maintain stability in the wake of the country’s economic crisis and subsequent recovery programme.
The latest reserve figures are expected to be closely watched as an indicator of Sri Lanka’s capacity to meet external obligations and support confidence in the country’s broader economic recovery.
