Blocks 1 and 2 of Yala National Park, which were temporarily closed due to severe dry weather, will reopen to tourists on October 16, allowing visitors to return to two of Sri Lanka’s popular wildlife-viewing areas.
The two blocks were closed from September 14 to protect wildlife amid dry weather conditions and to facilitate repairs to the park’s road network.
The temporary closure was intended to safeguard animals as water sources and vegetation were affected by the prevailing dry conditions, while also allowing authorities to carry out essential maintenance work on roads used by safari vehicles.
With the reopening scheduled for Thursday (October 16), tourists will once again be able to visit the two blocks, subject to the park’s applicable entry requirements and regulations.
Meanwhile, reservations for tourist lodges and campsites in the park will be available from November 1.
The reopening is expected to restore access to the affected areas for wildlife enthusiasts and safari operators, following the temporary suspension of visits during the dry spell.
