FSP raises concern over high defence budget

Propaganda Secretary of the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) Duminda Nagamuwa said that it is unnecessary to spend such a huge amount on defense in a country without even a war.

He expressed these views while distributing leaflets in front of the Fort Railway Station in conjunction with the leaflet distribution program conducted by the FSP in cities across the island yesterday (10) under the theme “Is the government on the right path?”.

He noted that the party has submitted a number of proposals to the government regarding this year’s budget, but the government does not seem to have taken those proposals into consideration.

Highlighting that every government since the war has allocated huge amounts for defence, he said it is the government’s responsibility to inform the people about the need to maintain such high spending for defence.

He also said that the government is slashing funds allocated for health and education, claiming that it does not have the money.
