A government is meaningless if it fails to secure economic growth, said MP Dr. Harsha de Silva.

He said economic growth this year is projected by the government at 3.5 per cent, while it will be reduced to 3.1 pc in 2026.

He urged the government to change its economic model.

Issuing a challenge to all1 159 ruling MPs, de Silva said development under the present administration would be possible as far as 2075.

The economy stabilized and interest rates declined during the previous regime, he said, adding the present rulers are entrapped by the IMF.

He also ridiculed a government minister’s claim that the electricity tariffs won’t be raised.
