Amid speculation of a widening rift with the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), it is reported that the party is planning to change its key leadership positions, including the posts of General Secretary and Chairman.
Reports also indicate that the new appointments will be in response to the ongoing crisis within the party. However, senior party members have voiced their disapproval regarding these proposed changes.
Tensions have escalated following the recent appointments to the SJB’s national list, which notably excluded party Chairman Imtiaz Bakir Makar in favour of a less senior member.
Further, there has been considerable resistance to the emergence of a third force operating behind the scenes that has taken a firm grip on the management of party affairs.
It is learnt that many SJB MPs are disappointed the way SJB is headed following defeats in all four major elections the party has faced since its inception.
