A high-level meeting of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) aimed at resolving the party’s internal power struggle ended without agreement this week, after senior members failed to reach a consensus on key appointments.

The discussion was held at the residence of MP Mahinda Amaraweera and was attended by senior party figures including Nimal Siripala de Silva, Duminda Dissanayake, Lasantha Alagiyawanna and Dayasiri Jayasekara.

Senior members of the party had convened to negotiate internal reforms and finalize several organizational positions amid ongoing tensions over leadership roles.

According to party sources, the position of national organizer was offered to Jayasekara on the condition that he withdraw a court case concerning the disputed general secretary post.

Jayasekara declined the offer, insisting instead that he be appointed general secretary—an option party seniors rejected.

With neither side budging, the meeting concluded without a settlement, leaving the SLFP’s internal rift unresolved.
