The United National Party (UNP) has once again affirmed its firm stance that Israel and Palestine should be recognised as two sovereign states, a position it has consistently upheld over the years.

UNP Chairman Wajira Abeywardena made the remarks during a media briefing held in Colombo, which brought together party leaders to address the ongoing crisis between Israel and Palestine.

Abeywardena noted that the party’s position has been clearly articulated by UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe in recent years, reflecting a sustained commitment to a peaceful resolution based on mutual recognition.

Highlighting the humanitarian aspect, Abeywardena revealed that the party has extended financial aid aimed at protecting innocent lives caught in the conflict.

He also expressed confidence that the international community, particularly Western nations, would take similar steps to alleviate human suffering.
