The leader of the National Freedom Front and former parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa lodged a complaint at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Friday (03) calling to investigate an irregularity that occurred during the tenure of former Minister Basil Rajapaksa as the Finance Minister.

Weerawansa said that all written information related to the statement he had made earlier regarding Basil Rajapaksa was handed over to CID officers and that information regarding his properties in the United States is contained in those documents that were handed over by him to the CID.

He further said that the information he provided only mentioned a limited part of Basil Rajapaksa’s assets and that the government could obtain the necessary information regarding the remaining properties from the United States.

The NFF leader also said that if the government intends to investigate the real thieves instead of falsely arresting those who have committed minor offences, then he would like to tell the government to investigate Basil Rajapaksa’s properties.

Leader of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya and former parliamentarian Udaya Gammanpila was also present.
