The Sri Lanka Army celebrated its star performers of the 4th South Asian Senior Athletics Championship 2025 at a special felicitation ceremony held on Thursday (30) at Army Headquarters.

The event recognized the athletes’ exceptional achievements and their role in bringing regional glory to Sri Lanka.

Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, personally commended the athletes for their unwavering dedication and discipline.

The Army athletics team delivered a remarkable performance at the championship in India, securing an impressive 12 gold, 8 silver, and 7 bronze medals, reaffirming the Army’s continued dominance in South Asian athletics.

In appreciation of their outstanding performances, several athletes received promotions to higher ranks.

Among them, Lance Corporal Shafiya Yamick, who won three gold medals, was promoted to the rank of Corporal, alongside 17 other medal-winning athletes who were elevated to their substantive ranks.

During the ceremony, the Army Commander also awarded cash incentives to the athletes, encouraging them to maintain their competitive spirit and strive for further excellence in upcoming national and international competitions.

Lance Corporal M.Y.F. Shafiya – 100m (Gold – Meet Record, 11.53s), 200m (Gold – Meet Record, 23.58s), 4×100m Relay (Gold – Meet Record) → Promoted to Corporal

Lance Corporal V. Vaksan – 5000m (Silver) → Promoted to Corporal

Lance Corporal D.M.H.S. Karunarathne – 800m (Gold) → Promoted to Corporal

Lance Corporal Y.C.M. Yodhasinghe – 100m (Gold – Meet Record, 10.30s), 4×100m Relay (Gold) → Promoted to Corporal

Lance Corporal K.A.P. Malshan – Triple Jump (Gold) → Promoted to Corporal

Lance Corporal R.P. Gamage – High Jump (Silver) → Promoted to Corporal

Infantryman D.D.S. Diyalawaththa – 4×100m Relay (Gold) → Promoted to Lance Corporal
