The Disaster Management Center (DMC) confirmed Thursday that 486 people have died and 341 remain missing following a week of severe weather that has devastated multiple regions across the country.

In its situation report issued at 6 a.m. on December 5, the DMC said 171,778 residents have been displaced. Government authorities have established 1,231 safety centers to shelter those forced from their homes.

The government has not yet released a full assessment of the damage, but preliminary reports indicate widespread destruction of homes and infrastructure, and significant disruptions to transportation.
