Defeated NPP candidate appointed Civil Security chief

Major General K.H.P. Palitha Fernando (Retd) has been appointed as the Director-General of the Civil Security Department (CSD).

Fernando had contested from the Galle district from the National People’s Power (NPP) and was defeated at the last election.

The Cabinet approval to appoint him as the Director-General of CSD was obtained at the Cabinet meeting held on January 20 after a proposal was submitted by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as the Minister of Defense.

The post of Director-General fell vacant from January 1, 2025.

Maj. Gen. Fernando (Retd) has been appointed to the post on a contract basis for a period of one year.

He has served as a member of the NPP’s Retired Tri-Forces Collective.
