Deputy Minister of Public Security Sunil Watagala evaded journalists when he was questioned about national security concerns after the assassination of a notorious underworld figure inside the Hulftsdorp court complex.

After visiting the scene of the crime, Watagala was surrounded by journalists who pressed him on how the government could ensure national security if suspects could be shot and killed in broad daylight inside the court premises.

The Deputy Minister, looking uneasy, tried to leave the area in haste, calling for his vehicle to be brought to the scene.

However, he briefly stated that authorities had identified all individuals involved in the incident.

The notorious drug trafficker and organized criminal known as “Ganemulla Sanjeewa” was shot dead inside the Aluthkade No.5. Magistrate’s Court complex, where he had been brought under guard to appear for a court case.
