Ex-JVP PS member prevented from taking over state land

A group led by a former Pradeshiya Sabha member of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) had been prevented from taking over a state-owned 35-acre land at Arachchikattuwa in Puttalam.

On 05 March, they had arrived at the plot known as Bandarahena and using a backhoe, had been turning the soil when area residents went on the alert.

Informed by the area’s Grama Niladhari, the divisional secretary instructed the police to prevent the illegal activity.

The DS has warned the group of legal action if they persisted with their attempt.

A police investigation is underway into the incident.

The plot of land in question has been marked for distribution among the landless in the area.
