Sri Lanka’s Public Health Inspectors’ Union has raised the alarm over a scam involving individuals posing as public health inspectors (PHIs) to extort money from businesses.

Union General Secretary Chamil Mutukuda urged the public to remain cautious, warning that fraudsters have been impersonating PHIs and demanding payments from unsuspecting businessmen.

“We have received complaints about a group contacting business owners over the phone, pretending to be PHIs, and pressuring them for money,” Mutukuda said.

He urged the business community to stay alert and report any such incidents to authorities instead of giving in to these fraudulent demands.

Meanwhile, Mutukuda also announced that official market raids for the festive season are set to begin tomorrow (24).
