President Anura Kumara Dissanayake says that a problematic situation has been encountered with regard to the extradition of former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, a prime suspect in the Central Bank bond fraud incident.

He also states that since Arjuna Mahendran is a Singaporean, strong evidence must be presented.

Dissanayake said this while participating in a political talk show on a private tv channel.

“Warrants have already been issued to summon Arjuna Mahendran. But he is a Singaporean. Therefore, we have faced some problems in bringing him in. Governments always think from the perspective of their own citizens. So we need to get more evidence and convince the Singaporean government,” he said.

Pre-election pledge

Addressing a rally on August 18, 2024, in Kirabathgoda, Anura Kumara Dissanayake vowed that the National People’s Power (NPP) will bring back former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, who fled to Singapore, to Sri Lanka as the first priority of a NPP government.
