Hospital services islandwide were disrupted today (27) as two professional groups affiliated with the Joint Council for Professions of Supplementary to Medicine (JCPSM) launched a strike, protesting delays in recruiting state university graduates into the health sector.
The JCPSM also accused the Health Ministry of breaching agreements by prioritising appointments for private and foreign-trained graduates, ahead of a scheduled ceremony on May 28.
The union has demanded the event be halted and warned of a countrywide continuous strike involving all seven supplementary medical professions if their concerns remain unaddressed.
Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Anil Jasinghe said the matter would be brought to the attention of the Health Minister, though no official response has been issued at the time of reporting.
