Top cops battle to be next IGP

It is reported that there is internal competition among several senior Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) of the Police Department to become the thirty-seventh Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Sri Lanka.

This situation has arisen following the submission of a confidence motion in Parliament to remove Deshabandu Tennakoon from his position as IGP.

It is also reported that apart from Acting IGP Priyantha Weerasuriya, Senior DIGs Lalith Pathinayake, Sanjeeva Medawatte, Ranmal Kodithuwakku, Sanjeewa Dharmaratne, Kithsiri Jayalath, and M.G.R.S. Chaminda are among the frontrunners for the position.
