Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa announced that the identification and prosecution of the mastermind behind the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks will be placed under the jurisdiction of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the judiciary.

Responding to questions from journalists regarding President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s earlier promise to reveal the mastermind before 21 April, Minister Jayatissa emphasized that investigations are progressing, albeit without a fixed timeline.

“The investigations are moving forward methodically,” Jayatissa said. “It is not possible to commit to specific dates. We are acting within our mandate, and the process is being handled properly.”

He also criticized attempts to stir public unrest by individuals like Udaya Gammanpila, adding that such disruptions will not distract the government from its objectives.

“The government is not concerned about agitation by individuals who may be directly or indirectly connected to the conspiracy. We anticipate more attempts to create disturbances, but these will not affect the progress of the investigation,” he said.

Jayatissa acknowledged the complexity of the probe, stressing that crucial information is still being uncovered.

The Easter Sunday attacks, which targeted churches and hotels across the country, killed over 250 people and injured hundreds more, leaving a lasting impact on the nation.
