Industries Minister Sunil Handunnetti has voiced strong opposition to the 15 percent value-added tax (VAT) to be imposed on digital service providers.

In a statement made during a national television program, Minister Handunnetti expressed concerns that the new tax could negatively impact the country’s digital economy and discourage individuals who earn foreign currency through digital platforms.

He suggested that the new tax be reviewed to ensure that it does not have adverse effects on individuals and businesses earning money by providing digital services.
