A person claiming to be the personal secretary of a current government minister is allegedly residing illegally in a luxury house in Colombo 7, which belongs to the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), according to port trade unions.

The unions further allege that this house, which is typically reserved for the highest-ranking officials of the SLPA, has been allocated to the secretary citing emergency measures.

This issue was also brought up during the recent budget debate in Parliament, but trade union representatives claim that the individual is still occupying the residence.

The trade union leaders argue that, since the minister responsible for this sector is not currently staying in the official residence, the secretary has no right to reside there.

They also allege that the house was provided to the secretary without the approval of the Ports Authority Housing Committee.
