Minister of Civil Aviation Bimal Ratnayake said that SriLankan Airlines, once teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, has made a remarkable recovery within six months, strong enough to add a new aircraft to its fleet.

Reflecting on the moment the new aircraft was welcomed, Ratnayake said he was emotionally moved by the overwhelming support seen across social media platforms.

“When I saw the public’s reaction to the aircraft we brought in, I was moved to tears,” he said.

The newly acquired Airbus A330-200 aircraft by SriLankan Airlines arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday (04).

The aircraft conducted a low-altitude flyover over Colombo and Katunayake, offering an opportunity for aviation enthusiasts and the public to witness the event.

In the budget for 2025, the National People’s Power (NPP) government allocated Rs. 20 billion to settle legacy debt of the loss-making airline.
