The aroma of kebabs on the grill, the delicate layers of freshly prepared börek, and a table filled with mezze: this October, Shangri-La Colombo invites diners to discover Türkiye through its food. Following the success of last year’s celebration, ‘Flavours of Türkiye’ returns to Central Restaurant in collaboration with the Embassy of Türkiye, from 30 October to 7 November.
At the heart of this year’s festival are four visiting chefs: Ali Taşpınar, Caner Dolu, Mehmet Erdoğan, and Kalkan Feyzullah. Travelling from Türkiye to cook alongside Shangri-La Colombo’s culinary team, they bring their craft and a personal understanding of the flavours that make Turkish cuisine so distinctive.
Presented as part of Central’s dinner buffet, the Turkish selection invites guests to explore at their own pace. Begin with creamy hummus and an assortment of mezze before discovering the contrast of crisp pastry and savoury fillings in börek. Move on to kebabs fresh from the grill, then linger over the delicate, syrup-soaked layers of baklava, finished with pistachio. It is a menu that rewards curiosity, with every return to the table offering another flavour to discover.
Food sets the scene, while Turkish music brings another dimension to the evening, creating a gathering shaped by the pleasure of eating well and sharing generously.
“We are delighted to welcome guests to another edition of ‘Flavours of Türkiye’ at Shangri-La Colombo. With four chefs travelling from Türkiye, this year’s festival brings a personal connection to the cuisine: the traditions they carry, the skills they have refined and the stories behind each dish,” said Shangri-La Colombo General Manager Andreas Streiber. “We look forward to sharing the warmth of the Turkish table through an experience enriched by music, culture and our own spirit of heartfelt hospitality.”
Ambassador of Türkiye to Sri Lanka Semih Lütfü Turgut added: “In Türkiye, welcoming someone to the table is an expression of friendship. Our cuisine carries the stories of generations, shaped by regional traditions and the joy of sharing a meal. Through ‘Flavours of Türkiye,’ we invite guests in Sri Lanka to discover that heritage through the hands of our chefs and the richness of our music. It is a pleasure to see these encounters deepen the friendship between our countries and bring our people closer.”
‘Flavours of Türkiye’ will be held from 6.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. daily at Central Restaurant, priced at Rs. 9,539 nett per person. For diners planning their next culinary discovery in Colombo, the festival offers an opportunity to experience Turkish cooking in the company of the chefs who know it best.
