The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has launched an investigation into the disappearance of the linen inventory at the Speaker’s official residence, with the residence manager among those questioned.

CIABOC has reportedly recorded a statement from the manager of the Speaker’s official residence as part of the investigation and has summoned eight other employees to provide statements regarding the missing inventory.

CIABOC Special Investigation Unit Chief M.G. Abeysinghe has informed Parliament’s Deputy Director (Administration) that the employees are required to appear before the Commission on October 12, 13 and 16 to record their statements.

The investigation was initiated after the employee responsible for maintaining the linen inventory reported its disappearance to the manager of the Speaker’s official residence.

The Commission is now examining the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and the responsibilities of the employees connected to the management and maintenance of the residence’s linen stock.

The summons form part of the ongoing inquiry, and no findings of wrongdoing have been made against the employees at this stage.
