A team of investigators has reportedly begun extracting the complete set of data from the computer systems of Sri Lanka’s Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) as part of a comprehensive investigation into alleged corruption and irregularities within the department.
The operation is being carried out by investigators, including officers from the Police Anti-Vice Unit in Walana, with technical assistance from several state institutions and academic experts.
The investigation aims to examine suspected corrupt practices and other irregularities allegedly committed within the department, with the extraction of the full database expected to provide investigators with access to relevant electronic records and information.
Professors from the School of Computing at the University of Colombo, officials from the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT), and specialists from GovTech Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Telecom have also joined the operation.
The involvement of these technical experts is intended to support the extraction and examination of the department’s digital records as investigators pursue a wider probe into alleged misconduct.
The exercise brings together law enforcement officers, cybersecurity specialists, telecommunications experts and university academics, reflecting the technical scope of the investigation into suspected irregularities at the DMT.
