Sri Lanka’s power supply is expected to receive a boost today (22), with the No. 2 generating unit at the Norochcholai Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant scheduled to reconnect to the national grid and restore its full generation capacity of 270 megawatts (MW).
Plant Director Engineer M.D. Nalaka Kumara has said the unit was scheduled to be reconnected to the national grid this morning, with its full capacity expected to be available by around 3 p.m.
The return of the unit is expected to strengthen electricity generation capacity, depending on the overall demand and supply situation.
Meanwhile, Electricity Generation Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. Has said a decision on daily electricity management was also expected to be made today.
The availability of the unit’s full 270 MW capacity will be a key factor in assessing the country’s electricity supply requirements and determining the need for further power management measures.
