A future Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) government would not take action against President Anura Kumara Dissanayake over any financial assistance he has extended to people affected by the recent disaster, parliamentarian S.M. Marikkar said.
Marikkar told reporters that the SJB welcomed the “very attractive package” of relief for those devastated by the floods and landslides.
He acknowledged that shortcomings in distributing assistance were inevitable but stressed that no one involved in the process should fear repercussions.
He urged authorities to ensure that relief funds allocated for affected families are fully utilized and not returned to the Treasury unused, as had happened in previous disaster responses.
Marikkar also called for interest-free loans for one year for small and medium-scale businesses, noting that they form the backbone of the economy and need support to recover from the disaster’s economic impact.
