The Election Commission has announced an extension for postal vote application period for government officials, security forces/police personnel, and postal vote certifying officers who wish to cast their postal votes in the upcoming Local Government elections.

The deadline for submitting postal vote applications, originally set for midnight on March 12, has therefore been extended to midnight on March 17.

This extension was granted following requests made to the commission and to account for potential postal delays.

The Election Commission emphasized that all postal vote applications must be received at the relevant District Election Office by midnight on March 17.

To ensure timely delivery and avoid potential delays, the Commission advised against mailing postal vote applications submitted between March 13 and 17.

Instead, applicants are encouraged to sort their applications by district, place them in separate envelopes, and hand-deliver them to the District Election Office where the Certifying Officer’s office is located.

Additionally, the Commission has announced a specific deadline extension for certain Local Government institutions.

The deadline for accepting postal vote applications for the Poonakary Pradeshiya Sabha in the Kilinochchi District, Mannar Pradeshiya Sabha in Mannar District, and Dehiattakandiya Pradeshiya Sabha in the Ampara District has been extended to March 19.

This extension applies because the nomination notice for these institutions was only published on March 10.
