The People’s Struggle Alliance has called on the government to revoke the civic rights of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, citing findings from the Batalanda Commission report.

This latest development has sparked a political debate, with the PSA urging the government to take decisive action and follow through with the recommendations of the report.

During a media briefing held in Colombo, PSA national organizer Duminda Nagamuwa emphasized the importance of tabling the Batalanda Commission report in Parliament.

According to Nagamuwa, this process is essential to initiate the revocation of Wickremesinghe’s civic rights, and it is the responsibility of the government to implement the findings.

The Batalanda Commission report, which delves into allegations of human rights violations and abuses during Wickremesinghe’s tenure, remains a significant point of contention in Sri Lankan politics.

Despite its crucial findings, it has never been formally tabled in Parliament, leading to ongoing calls for accountability.

In a recent interview on Al Jazeera, Wickremesinghe himself addressed the controversy surrounding the report, claiming that it has never been tabled in Parliament.

The former president expressed that it is now the responsibility of the current government to take the necessary steps to table the report and address its recommendations.

Nagamuwa, however, challenged the current government to take immediate action.

With a super majority in Parliament, he pointed out that the government now has the power to push for the implementation of the Batalanda Commission report.
