Commenting on the talks between the United National Party (UNP) and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) on the possibility of working together in the future, UNP General Secretary Thalatha Atukorale said that if some group tries to bring both parties together based on their personal interests and ends up sabotaging the program, that group will have to be held responsible for the political chaos that will arise in the future.

She emphasised that this is not the time to consider the personal agendas of any individual.

Speaking further, Atukorale also said:

“All members of Samagi Jana Balawega have shown great optimism during the discussions. If we have any problems going forward, we need to resolve them. This election is not an election for us to get stuck on a party leader or a logo. This election is one where all our representatives will come forward with great difficulty. The foundation of whether we will allow a single-party rule or whether we will all come together and change this will be laid by this election. On the UNP side, we have received very positive blessings from our leader, Ranil Wickremesinghe. Everyone, including the General Secretary of the SJB, is very positive about it. However, some people have personal agendas. This is not a time to talk about resolving personal issues. So, if that is done, it will lead to political chaos in the future. If anyone comes forward to sabotage this opportunity, they will have to be held accountable,” Atukorale added.
