Wajira welcomes Govt.’s forming LG bodies rules together with other parties

It is a positive trend that the National People’s Power (NPP) government has formed administrations in local government bodies together with the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), United National Party (UNP) and other opposition parties, said UNP chairman Wajira Abeywardena.

“The government takes power together with the SLPP. In some places, it is with the SJB. There is unity among all. I believe this will be a good example to Sri Lanka. I believe unity is better than division,” he said.

However, people have tasked their representatives with fulfilling the role of the opposition, he said, adding the moment during which it plays its role during the voting has now passed.

Now, the outcome of the secret votes is becoming evident and there’s nothing left to hide, said Abeywardena, adding that both the ruling and the opposition parties are getting uncovered.

So, the opposition’s reverting back to secrecy means that something untoward is going to happen, and I believe even that will be beneficial to the country, he said.

The UNP chairman added that it is imperative that there is unity in the subsequent forming of rule in 339 LG bodies.
