As Sri Lanka continues its battle against rising dengue infections, the Government Ayurveda Medical Officers’ Association (GAMOA) says a range of Ayurvedic preparations has been introduced to complement ongoing disease control efforts by strengthening immunity and supporting public health initiatives.

Addressing a media briefing, GAMOA President Dr. Upul Konthasinghe has said special Ayurvedic medicines had been developed with the aim of enhancing the immunity of both the general public and dengue patients.

According to Dr. Konthasinghe, the Western Province Ayurvedic Department has already begun distributing one of the newly introduced herbal preparations to households across the province as part of a wider campaign to help curb the spread of dengue.

He has said the initiative forms part of broader preventive measures being undertaken alongside conventional mosquito control programmes.

In addition to the herbal medicine, the department is also distributing Ayurvedic mosquito-fogging powder for use in vector control activities, he has said.

Dr. Konthasinghe has urged members of the public to make use of the items distributed by health authorities rather than discarding them, noting that public funds had been invested in producing and delivering the medicines and mosquito-control materials.

He has said the programme reflects the Ayurvedic sector’s contribution to the national dengue prevention campaign and called on communities to cooperate with health officials in efforts to reduce the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.

The announcement comes as health authorities continue to encourage the public to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, maintain clean surroundings and adopt preventive measures to reduce the risk of dengue transmission during the current high-risk period.

While the Ayurvedic preparations are being promoted as measures to support immunity and complement dengue prevention efforts, the primary strategies for controlling dengue remain mosquito control, early detection of infection and timely medical treatment.
